Children learn to read Arabic through the Noorani method, memorize the shorter suras, and build enough vocabulary to read the Quran themselves.

We are more than
a Sunday school.
We are a community.
A school for children ages 5 to 18, one morning a week, built by the families who send their children to it. New families are always welcome - come on any Sunday and see a class.

Every member
of the family.
The Islamic School of Potomac was founded with a commitment to uplift every member of the family, not just the students registered in our school.
Our teaching philosophy
Children have enough homework during the week.
We don't give
homework to children.
We give it to
the parents!
Parents reinforce what their children learn by doing it with them: praying together, giving together, showing up for the community together. It is the part of the program that happens at your kitchen table.

Deen
Each year has a theme. A six-year-old and a sixteen-year-old explore the same idea on the same Sunday, each at their own depth.

...and in between
The school's name for everything that happens outside class: friendships, questions asked in a hallway, the habit of showing up. Children often remember this part best.

Thirty-three Sundays.
The year runs September through May, with a Deen Showcase in December, Arabic exams and a Quran Competition in May.

The end of the first semester. Children present what they have been working on since September.

SUPPORT
Tuition is $60
a year.
Donations cover the rest. The Islamic School of Potomac is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Donations pay for books, materials, the Showcase and the Competition.
